Even the Sparrow

Even the Sparrow was the first of a series of three paintings about the importance of even the small ordinary living things we see every day. Later it also inspired continued interest in organic geometry, the balance of nature, backyard ecology, and mandala designs.

“I painted this in the fall, pulling my easel out into the front yard to paint the young London Plane tree with its beautiful peeling bark.

There were many sparrows around, and strangely, one even flew right up beside me for a moment when I was painting the leaves on the bending branch.”
